Great Oily Skin Care Techniques

So you’ve got oily skin. It’s nothing to be ashamed about. Pretty much everybody going through puberty has a little more oil on their skin than they’re comfortable with. Even well after puberty and into their thirties, some people have oily skin to an unfortunate degree. The good news is that oily skin care is simple and there are many cheap, effective ways to combat the problem.

Removing Oil: Reactive Techniques

You’ll want to use an astringent wipe daily (maybe twice a day) to remove excess oil from your face. Astringent wipes are a lesson in balance: don’t wipe too soft, but don’t wipe too hard, either. Wiping too soft will obviously not remove all the necessary oil from your skin. However, wiping too hard can have the unintended effect of removing too much oil, for which your body will overcompensate. You’ll end up with more oil than you started with, which is obviously a big no-no when it comes to oily skin care.

It’s important to use a facial cleanser every time you wash the rest of your body. Basic bars of soap and liquid soap are not going to cut it when it comes to oily skin care. This should help unclog your pores, allowing the necessary amount of oil in your skin to be contained beneath the surface. Again, make sure you don’t scrub too hard. You don’t want to be assaulting your face every time you have to wash it.

Avoiding Oil: Preventative Techniques

Removing oil once you have it is all well and good, but wouldn’t it be better to avoid oily skin all together? Preventative oily skin care can do wonders for your complexion as well as your pocket book; you won’t need to purchase some of those expensive skin care products that you used to. First, you should avoid moisturizing as much as possible. Even oil-free moisturizers have some oil in them, and if you don’t need it, moisturizing can cause you some of the problems you’re trying to avoid. However, if your face feels tight or dry, or is consistently more red than it should be, go ahead and use a light gel moisturizer.

For women, choosing makeup is also important. Make sure you avoid using blush or foundation that is oil-based. Use makeup that is water based; water won’t clog your pores. You can even get foundation that is oil-repellent, which will be one more added step towards an oil-free complexion. In the same vein, avoid using sunscreen that is oil-based.

Oily skin care does not need to be a burden on your life. Practicing these preventative measures will prove great for your skin, leaving it healthy and beautiful.
